7 WAYS TO COMBAT LOCKDOWN LONELINESS
HAS LOCKDOWN AFFECTED YOUR MENTAL HEALTH?
HERE ARE 7 IDEAS TO HELP YOU GET THROUGH THE SOCIAL DISTANCING.
1- Self Reflect - Try and sit with yourself and pin point where these negative feelings are coming from? Do you need to adjust your close inner circle? Expand or shrink. Do you need a big career change or big life change? Dig down into the route of the issue.
2- Learn to enjoy some alone time - when you are not used to being comfortable with time alone, when you've always been surrounded by friends and family it can be tough to adjust. Frustration can set in when you are trying to constantly fill your new found time with people constantly. Instead fill it with activities that YOU ENJOY. Reading, sport, learning, films anything that will help you grow to love your time alone.
3- Have breaks from social media - seeing those who have access to others (or those who are playing silly buggers with the rules…..stop it by the way) it can compound your loneliness. I know you’ve heard it a million times but social media is not real life, you don't often see people struggling to pay bills, hate their body or feel lonely on instagram, its not real life.
4- Volunteer - Now more than ever the world needs to help each other out. Cure your loneliness and someone else by offering your time to listen to people who have nobody. I offered my services to the charity MIND to help people where I can but there are many services over run with people who need YOUR help.
5- Make yourself proactive - It’s super easy to get in the “No one cares about me” mindset, I know I have been there. In reality people get busy, life gets in the way, you can’t control what people do but you can control what you do. Pick up the phone, make the effort, now is the perfect time to reach out and talk to people you haven't for a long time.
6- Put attention into and nurture your relationships - During the “being trapped at home to work” times, its so easy to get caught up in the world outside your walls, in a desperation we put all our focus on why we can't escape these things. You could be getting a deep personal benefit from using this time to nurture your close relationships you already have, talk more, get to know each other and I mean REALLY.
7- Remember that all storms pass - just think of this time as you being a boat out on choppy seas, you just have to stay afloat until you the waves turn to calmer seas. This will pass, we will come out the other end.
